15 Week Appointment Today: Rant & Rave

I had another appointment today and I left feeling really frustrated. I'll get to that, but first I want to focus on the good. Baby's heart rate was great at 155 and was such a beautiful sound to hear. I always get extremely nervous before my appointments (my systolic bp was almost 140, yikes! I'm normally 100-110) and it's so reassuring to hear that sound! My uterus is measuring big and is up to my belly button already. That's where you should be around 20 weeks. That's alright, I'm glad my LO has plenty of room to swim around and practice gymnastics, lol. I've also gained 11 lbs so far. I was really shocked, but my doctor said that I'm right on target.

Okay, on to the rant. I'm really frustrated. As I've mentioned I get seen at the high risk OB at the Naval Hospital due to having lupus. It's frustrating because I see a different doctor each time and they apparently don't talk to each other or write things down because I get a different "game plan" each time I go.

At my last appointment I was told that I was going to start getting seen every month (instead of every two weeks) and I was going to get a growth scan (u/s) each time because lupus can affect the growth of the baby. Well, today the doctor I saw said I need to come back in 2 weeks and she didn't even do a growth scan. I mentioned to her what I was told at my last appointment and she just blew me off and said that they only do the growth scans after my INITIAL 20 week ultrasound. First of all when I first started my ob appointments I was getting u/s every week, then every two weeks, and now I'm suppose to be getting them ONCE a month! That's the entire purpose of me being seen in the high risk clinic. UGGGGGH! Oh well, you can't talk to someone who won't listen.

I'm going to talk to my next doctor about it at my appointment in two weeks. I'm the type of person that likes to know what to expect and that things are being done as they are suppose to. Also, I do want to make sure the baby is measuring on track, but I'm also disappointed because I was hoping that when they did my growth scan they would take a peek and tell me the baby's gender. At least my anatomy scan is only 3 weeks away and baby is doing well!
I make it no secret that I can't stand the cold. I turn into a big, whiny, miserable baby and I will avoid the outdoors at all costs. As far as I'm concerned what is even worse then the cold is SNOW! I hate snow and it puts me in an instant bad mood. I don't know how I turned out this way being that I spent a large chunk of my life living in Reno, NV and Salt Lake City, UT. But, it is what it is.

This morning I was in a great mood and all set to finally go buy some maternity clothes. I have been wearing my current jeans by using the rubberband trick (loop a rubberband through the button hole and then over the button), but that's no longer working or comfortable. I'm intimidated by the thought of maternity clothes shopping because it's new territory for me and I have no clue how it's going to go, but I finally psyched myself up and was genuinely excited to go. I look out my window and it's freaking snowing! I know, I KNOW I'm being a baby, but this really put a damper on my day. It never snows this much where I live and now it's like an every other day occurrence. Seriously, last year it snowed ONCE and it barely stuck to the ground.

While I wait for my bad mood to fade before I brave the great outdoors I thought that I would share with you some things that I've discovered lately that I love. I didn't come up with these on my own; they were suggestions that I saw on someone's blog. I can't for the life of me remember who. So, if you read this and it was something that I found on your blog please let me know so that I can give proper credit.

1. Camelbak Better Water Bottle: I have been looking for the perfect water bottle to take with me while I'm out and about and this is it! It has a flip up straw that goes all the way to the bottom, it doesn't leak, and it's gorgeous!

2. Burts Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil: I love chapstick and light lip gloss and this is the best of both worlds. It really nourishes your lips and at the same time gives them a nice pink hue. 3. Dove Cream Oil Shea Butter Body Lotion for extra dry skin: I don't know if it's pregnancy or the freaky winter weather we've been having, but I've had some seriously dry skin and all of my usual lotions (Aveeno and Cocoa Butter) weren't cutting it. After I would put on lotion my skin would be dry two minutes later. I was skeptical about this lotion because it seemed really light weight and thin, but it has done the trick and my skin is now lovely. An added bonus is that it smells great. What are your favorite products? I'm always looking for suggestions on new things to check out and would love to hear what you love.

Week 14

Tomorrow I will be 14 weeks, so I thought that I would do a fun little pregnancy survey. This is actually my way of avoiding doing anything productive :). I don't know where it is originally from, but I stole it from "Mommy Wanna-Be Turned Mommy To-Be". She has a great blog and is expecting beautiful twins!

How Far Along? 14 weeks

Total Weight Gained/Loss? I haven't been weighed in a few weeks, so back then it was 4 pounds. I'll be interested to see what it is at my 15 week appointment.

Maternity Clothes? Not yet, but I really do need to get a Bella Band for comfort. I try to unbutton my pants every chance I get.

Sleep? Pre-pregnancy I had insomnia and needed Ambien to sleep. So far I've been getting the best sleep of my life. Maybe I should name the baby Ambien or Lunesta, lol.

Best Moment of the Week? Starting to feel "fluttering" movement

Movement? Little flutters!

Food Cravings? Sweets (runts & nerds), fruit, OJ, bread, cheese

Food aversions? The thought of trail mix makes me want to hurl. I also can not for the life of me eat chicken.

Morning sickness? YES! It had started getting better, but for the last 3 days it has reared it's ugly head again.

Gender? I'm thinking boy, but we'll see.

Labor Signs? NO, NO, NO and let's keep it that way.

Belly Button? It's still an innie.

What I miss: I don't miss anything because of pregnancy. I miss my dh because he's deployed.

What I'm looking forward to: my ultrasound on February 16th and getting my doppler.

Milestones? Feeling my LO move!

I was feeling crazy that I was feeling movement ("quickening") at the beginning of my 13th week, since I had heard (& I'm sure many of you as well) that movement can't be felt until week 18 or beyond. However, my fellow preggos on thebump.com had reported early movement and this is what the American Pregnancy Association has to say about it: "Some moms can feel their babies move as early as 13-16 weeks from the start of their last period. These first fetal movements are called quickening and are often described as flutters. It may be difficult to determine whether this feeling is gas or your baby’s movements, but soon you will begin to notice a pattern. First-time moms may not feel these movements as early as second-time moms. Some moms, especially those in their first pregnancy, may not feel movement until 18-20 weeks. Remember that each woman and each pregnancy is different, so you may not feel movement as early as another woman. There is a broad range of when the first detection of movement can be felt, ranging from 13-25 weeks".

Ah Sweet Retail Therapy

After a very frustrating morning with a very annoying neighbor I decided that some retail therapy was in order and what better place to go than Target! First let me say that I am now 13 weeks pregnant and according to a trusted scientific study that I read, my baby can now hear noises outside the womb. Many websites that you read may say that fetuses can't hear outside noises until week 16, week 20-something, etc, but these scientists refuted those claims.

So, I went to Target and got these awesome Skullcandy Lowrider headphones. They're in my favorite color, are so comfortable, and will easily stretch to accommodate my belly as it grows over the months. I'm going to play classical music and some voice recordings that my dh made for the baby before he left for Haiti.

I also got a book that I've been wanting for awhile called "Your Pregnancy Week By Week". It's very detailed and very awesome!
Then I got a book to start reading to the baby called "God Gave Us You". It's a really touching book (especially to all of us that have difficulty ttc) and I wish that I was rich so that I could mail a copy to all of you. I started crying when I read it in the store.
My SIL is an awesome esthetician (www.yorklaine.com- gotta represent ;]) and she sent me some great cream of hers to help keep away stretch marks. My other SIL who is also pregnant has been using it too and has only gotten stretch marks in areas where she hasn't been using the cream. It was recommended that I mix the cream with some oil, such as jojoba, vitamin E, etc. Well, we have no health food stores in the area that sell oils and I don't want to order any online. Sometimes Target sells Bella B Tummy Honey Butter, which I heard is fantastic, but of course my Target wasn't carrying it. So, I'm just going to go ahead with Burts Bees Mama Bee Body Oil with my SIL's cream and I'm sure I'll be fine. The oil is 100% natural and made with sweet almond oil, lemon peel oil, wheat germ oil, rosemary leaf extract, soybean oil, canola oil, and vitamin E.
I also got some fantastic nail polish. I'm way over due for a little at home pedicure. I feel so much better after my retail therapy trip. I really don't get to go shopping that often and I already love shopping for my LO. Happy Monday everyone and I hope that you have a wonderful and blessed week!
